Frequently Asked Questions
We realize you have questions! well we have answers!
Why should I attend the Queens Technology Academy programs?
The Queens Technology Academy at The Austin Space provides a great environment to kickstart your career or interest in technology. We realize that most people are too busy nowadays with their full time jobs or classes to have the time to take a full time 3 month course. Our programs are all designed to be weekend based, 12 week sessions, that cover the most popular fields of technology. By being weekend based only, the tuition price is substantially lower than the traditional coding schools. Our instructors are all industry experts that have many years working in their respective fields. Now you truly have no excuse to pursue that skill you've always wanted to learn!
What will I learn at the Queens Technology Academy?
We currently offer two 12 sessions, weekend based programs that teach students two of the most demanding and hot fields in technology: web development and mobile development. You will learn everything from the basics to creating your own complex websites and mobile apps.
How does the programs work?
The programs are divided into different cohorts throughout the year. Each cohort has a limited number of students who are enrolled due to our promise to keep the student to teacher ratio extremely low. The deadline for the cohorts are usually 2 weeks prior to the starting date. Applications are submitted online and go through a vigorous vetting process that consists of an online assessment, coding challenge, a phone interview, and finally an admission decision. During the program, students will attend in person or live online 3 hour sessions every Saturday or Sunday for 12 weeks. The sessions will include a mix of guided lectures and hands on exercises. During the week, the instructor will issue assignments that will be due the following session. Most instructors will be available via email or our Slack channel to answer any questions you may have.
When is the next cohort?
The available cohorts are listed under the admission section of the website. We will update the page consistently as we admit more students.
How much does the program cost?
Unlike traditional coding schools, we do not charge a percentage of your first year salary or a ridiculous amount. The tuition is $4,000 per student per program. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit due on the first day of the program. The remaining 50% will be due at the halfway mark of the program.
I have absolutely no programming skills! Can I still apply?
Absolutely! If you take a look at our admission section of the website, you will see that prior coding experience is not a requirement, but a nice to have. The main requirements for admission is having the ability to problem solve, motivation to learn, and ability to cooperate. If you have these three things, then come apply!
What do I need to have for the program?
The most important thing to bring if admitted into any of the programs is an open mind to learn. For hardware, the web development program can be completed using either a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. For the mobile development program, a Mac is required. Snacks, coffee, tea, and water is complimentary of The Austin Space.
